Weekend Wear: Mixing Plaid and Houndstooth
Jacket: Elie Tahari | Shirt: no name | Shorts: Urban Outfitters (old) | Shoes: Shoemint | Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim x Target | Hat: Ralph Lauren | Scarf: NY Street Vendor
This weekend was full of exciting wedding stuff including looking at wedding bands and starting a small wedding registry at Crate and Barrel. Since the fiance and I were near Central Park we decided to take a small little stroll and snap some pictures. It was a lot colder on Saturday then I thought it would be, but thankfully I decided to throw on my pashmina scarf. I'm going to just admit it now I love pashmina scarves that NYC street vendors sell. They are inexpensive and the ones I have bought have lasted a long time. I have a ever growing collection of them. Scarves during the winter are not only one way to keep warm but can really pick up a look. You can add a pop of color by using a scar or you can use it to mix prints, especially prints you would't necessarily think of mixing. I don't think I would have ever tried mixing houndstooth and plaid together if it wasn't for my scarf.
Are you a scarf fan?

Inspirational Monday: Knee High Socks
pictures from: Natalie Off Duty | Keiko Lynn | Free People
Knee high socks brings me back to my Catholic School days. O, how I use to rock the knee high socks almost all school year round. To this day they are still one of my favorite pieces from my childhood. Unlike plaid, for awhile there I hated plaid because it reminded me of my school uniform. But knee high socks were always one of my favorites and still remains. I love breaking them out during the fall/winter months, whether its wearing bare legged, over a pair of tights, or skinny jeans. This weekend it was actually warm enough to wear them bare legged with a little dress and sweater.

My Kind of Holiday with Target
This Thanksgiving I'll be spending it in Pennsylvania with my soon to be In-Laws. Not only is it my first Thanksgiving with them, my fiance and I have either done Thanksgiving apart or have celebrated in NY with my family, but we also might have a new addition to the family joining us (besides myself). My soon to be sister-in-law is having a little boy! She is due around Thanksgiving and I'm hoping she has him by the time we are down there for the holiday. I can't wait to start my own traditions with my fiance and our own family one day. But for now I look forward to joining in on their traditions and for them to start their own with the new baby.
It's an exciting Thanksgiving this year with lots of thanks to give...for sure.
What will your Thanksgiving be like this year?

In the midst of running around getting our paper from Paper Source to start DIYing our wedding invites and checking out West Elm we stopped for quick pictures in the middle of the street in Dumbo. More like I demanded my fiance to take pictures of me in the middle of the street. Poor guy ever outing has become photo opp. time esp since the sun goes down way to early during the work week to get any pictures in. Anyway, I seriously love Dumbo. Cobble stone streets, Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn Bridge in the background, cute shops, and then there's the Brooklyn Bridge Park that has Jane's Carousel. So of course I jumped (no pun intended) on the opportunity to snap some pictures while in the area.
BTW how awesome are these shoes? I'm so freaking obsessed with them! I don't want to take them off, I just want to wear them EVERYWHERE.
Are there any locations in your neighborhood or area that you love?

You are probably wondering "whats up with the random kitty in the photos?" Well leave it to me to make a kitty friend while taking pictures. The fiance and I had date day at the Red Hook Winery (which by the way has amazing wines and is beautifully located out on the pier) and his little kitty came out to greet us from the framework shop as we were leaving the pier. How could I not pet this sweet little face? With total disregard to my fiance telling me not to pet her I bent down and petted her sweet little head. Don't worry, as a good New Yorker I always carry around hand sanitizer. I loved how she was so curious about me and wanted to just chill with us. The kitty stopping us couldn't be more fitting for the background story this watch Rakani and how our day had went. The morning was spent with me turning my closet inside out. What I initially had in mind didn't plan out which then put us behind to make the 1pm tour. Thankfully, the bus got there as soon as we got to the bus stop, plus he was super speedy and were able to make the tour. The Rakani What Time? was created to remind us all that the time doesn't have to be structured. And time shouldn't be so structured when you are with someone you love. Yea okay I am the girl who shows up early or right on time for everything, I hate being late! And yea maybe I was super stressed over the fact that we might miss the tour, but me running into that kitty really put the whole time thing in perspective. Things in life will pop up and sometimes you need to go with the flow. From there the fiance and I had an unscheduled date to Baked for some sweet treats. The What Time? watch is a nice reminder to step back and enjoy the time you have with the people that you love. It also helps that this watch is so fashionable. It's falling numbers are a fun play on time and it's not heavy or chunky. Perfectly dainty for those casual days and for a dressy affair.

How to Wear Over-the-Knee-Boots and Not Look Like a Street Walker
I've always been intimated by over-the-knee-boots, afraid that I would like Julia Roberts character in "Pretty Woman." At the beginning of the season I made it my mission to find an affordable pair, after seeing some of my favorite bloggers, like Liz of Late Afternoon and Helena of Brooklyn Blonde, rocking them. I figured I needed to kick the fear, so I first started by trying on a different boots even some that I knew I couldn't afford. Which was a totally heartbreaking when I found a pair of soft grey suede Jimmy Choo over-the-knee-boots at Century 21. But I finally found my pair a couple of weeks ago at Aldo. With the right price tag and months of searching I knew I had to take the plunge. So here I am playing dressing up and figuring how not to look like a street walker. Here are a couple of key ideas.
For the Weekdays:
Fitted + Tight = Street Walker.
Flare + Cut high enough just to show a sliver of skin = Chic.
Keep dresses and skirts pulled away from your body. Fit and flares are flattering on all body types, it really enhances your curves. If your boots cut up right above the knee or a little higher pick a dress or a skirt that short enough to show just a peek of skin. A darker colored dress will also keep the look chic. When pairing up with a jacket or coat pick one that is also a little longer, this will help play with lengths and keep you looking long. Keeping accessories to a minimum bracelets and scarves are perfect little accessories that can enhance the look. PS stay away from red lips. If you are a lipstick wearer, especially like me a sucker for richer colors, swap it out for a pink lip.
For the Weekends:
Darker bottoms that can blend in with your boots are preferred. When wearing leggings, keep them a basic black and wear with a chunky sweater or longer tunic. Things that are a little longer, chunkier, or adding layers will help keep from being overly flattering. I know what a backwards thought?! You don't want to look to sexy, just subtle sexiness. Do a nude lip for a laid back look. This look if perfect for Sunday brunches.

Weekend Wear: Leather Pants from Day to Night
Leather is everywhere this season from jackets to shirts to pants. I have to admit I'm all in about the leather pants trend. It's all about finding the right quality for the price you are willing to spend, plus the fit of the pants. It took me awhile to find an affordable "leather" pants, but finally found one that worked best for me from H&M. These pants work for the weekend more then the weekday, unless you work in fashion or somewhere else that you'd can get away with wearing this trend. I ended up wearing these this past Saturday while running around during the day day doing some errands and then switched up my look for my fiance's art opening that night. A simple change of the top, swap of a lipstick, and switching of the shoes can change everything about what the outfit says.
DAY:
For the day time look I kept it casual and cozy. Some wedge sneakers not only give the whole look a urban feel but also gives it a little lift. While a cozy cardigan and scarf are a perfect pairing for strolls on a fall day. I did a pink lip for a day look to brighten the whole outfit up a bit.
I swapped out my pink Stila lips for the BA Star Holiday Red lip pencil. This lip pencil works perfect by itself or you can do a little coat over it of your favorite red color. You can even blend in a little bit of plum to pull off a burgundy lip. Red lips are sultry and are perfect for leather pants, but beware of what you are pairing with to where you are going. Since I was going to my fiance's art opening I didn't want to look to va-va-boom, so a little bit of sparkle and booties to keep the look appropriate for a night time function. To finish off the look I paired my favorite H&M coat that I've had forever. Who doesn't love a colorful coat?
