1 Dress 2 Ways: The Weekend Edition
There is nothing quite like a easy throw on and go dress for those hot sticky weekends when getting dressed feels like a chore. Slip like dresses are not only comfortable but can easily be transitioned from day to night. They can take you from brunch with friends to late night drinks with a simple switch of accessories.
DAY LOOK:
We all get pretty lazy during the hot summer days, I mean I know do. Who even wants to think about getting dressed? This past weekend the fiance and I threw a little barbecue on our bare rooftop. Being that it's the end of July and it's a rooftop the thought of wearing anything more then a simple dress made me sweat. Before we can even start the day coffee called so this dress was perfect to throw on and go to our local coffee place and sit in the park to enjoy the morning. For a simple day look pair up your dress with a pair of your favorite sandals or flats. If you do jewelry keep it simple like a long chain necklace.
NIGHT LOOK:
After a day of barbecuing we all went out for some drinks at our favorite local bars. Throwing on a great pair of heeled booties can give the whole look a total different vibe and dress up it up a bit. Since we were staying local and since we live in Brooklyn I tied a denim top around my waist to keep it casual...and O so very Brooklyn.
What is your favorite day to night look for the weekend?

Inspirational Monday: Simplicity
top picture from pinterest, bottom picture from sole society
I've really been inspired by the simple things in life lately from a fresh clean room to a fresh clean look. Simplicity doesn't been have to mean boring. To me it just mean clean, fresh, and uncluttered. Sometimes our outfits much like our homes can be cluttered. Lately, I've found myself pairing easy dresses with bits of jewelry for a pop. Keeping it light and well simple. It's always nice to go back to basics.

The NYC Nighlife: Watermark Bar
Dress: (basically c/o) T by Alexander Wang | Shoes: Tibi | Bag: BCBGeneration | Bracelets: Forever21 and c/o Marti | Sunglasses: Tobi.com
pictures taken both by Brian Cavanaugh and I
Thursday night I was invited to the Watermark Bar launch party down at the new Pier 15 at the South Street Seaport. I thought this would be a great opportunity to have a night out with the fiance and dress up a little. I needed an excuse to wear this T by Alexander Wang dress that I risked my life for. Plus, I mean what more could you want, free drinks (ummm snow cone cocktails to be exact) and free snacks. The Watermark Bar is unlike anything I have seen in NYC, in a good way. It's all about the outdoor space, with wooden lounge chairs in the back giving it a posh poolside feel. You can even sit table side by the East River. The view at the South Street Seaport is one of the most beautiful views especially during dusk. This is surely a must stop for after work cocktails. Watch out rooftop bars there's a new guy in town!

Weekend Wear: Hot Town Summer In The City

The fiance and I found this little gem of a spot this weekend. Who knew there was a small pop-up pool at the Brooklyn Bridge Park?! This is much closer then any beach, since the park is walking distance (or at least 3 stops on the train) from where we live. It's a small pool that only allows 60 people in for a 45 minute swim session starting at each hour. Next to the pool is a little beach area and a lemonade stand that starts to sell boozey drinks starting at 6pm. But of course since we went on Sunday we had to take a walk over to Smorgasburg to get our food on. Glad I found this with enough time left in the summer to enjoy to this spot.
How are you staying cool this summer?

#shitfashiongirlsdo for Wang
There aren't many things I would stand outside in line for four hours for. Especially when it comes to fashion. I have designers that I admire, respect, and save up to hit their sample sale, but there is one designer that I totally fan girl...and his name is Alexander Wang. When the #wangsecret event went viral and was posted on a blogger community I'm apart of, a few of us knew this was an opportunity that could not be missed. But who knew we were going to take part in the most epic social media and social experience of the modern day.
Saturday morning rolled around, by 8am I was wide awake and ready to go. I found myself online with about 50 others including my blogger pals at 10am. Speculation was this might be a sample sale with ridic discounts and one of a kind pieces. Surely, this wasn't going to be your average sample sale or a sample sale at all since we were greeted with release forms to be signed. Yes, they were filming us. As time grew on updates from A Wang rolled out on twitter and more guesses from those on line flew around including: a music video, a fashion show, and the least likely of them all free clothes? By the time I knew it it was 1:30pm and they had recounted all of us. I was number 45, I was getting in! 3 groups counting to only 100 were slowly let in by 2pm. An empty brick room with a projection waited for us. Another new guess: a scavenger hunt. As anticipation filled the room, the lights went down and Alexander Wang came on the screen. A simple thank you for coming and then the next words that I'm sure many of us were hoping but not expecting "Everything from the T by Alexander Wang line is free!" You heard nothing but screams after that. The doors open and the Hunger Games fashion style began.
I am not one for crowds or fighting over clothing. All I can clearly remember thinking was "Strategy: go for things that you know would fit you."Also stay away from the people trying to knock you out ran through my head. So I grabbed all the t-shirts that I can find available. I also scored two dresses since they looked like they could be my size. People were going crazy. There were boxes in the middle of the that apparently had sweaters on top of them (I missed that). But what I did see were people going bonkers trying to open these boxes. Were there bags, shoes or accessories in there? No. If there was I would have been willing to loss an arm for one. Some did have clothes. After what might have been 45 seconds of mayhem Alexander Wang peeked out from behind a black curtain to wave and blow us all kisses. Also his adorable niece, Alia Wang, watched it all from above. Probably scared the 3 year old for life. It was over and as the happy (some of us bruised) campers we fled the building. Tessa (of Anecdoche), Nicole (of NY On My Mind), Jaclyn (of Jax Fifth Ave)a nd Diana (of War Worn Fashion) headed over to the Standard with our new found friend Michael (he got there at 7am! first on line). We went through our goods, did some trades, and drank some sangeria to calm the nerves. We were all still shaking from the whole event.
Some how I left unscathed. I wish I could say the same for everyone. Poor Tessa got knocked down and trampled, but managed to get amazing pieces like the sweaters I had missed. No maybe I didn't go as crazy as some others leaving with ARM FULL of clothes, but I scored pieces that I will wear and would have paid money for. Would I do it again? In a freaking heartbeat.
Now I wonder what they will do with the footage of us all going crazy. Social experiment? Opening of a fashion show? Fashion video?

These shorts were an emergency purchase. What happened? Well one day I wore a white skirt to work that was a little to see through except I didn't realize it until I got into the office. Good thing that LOFT is literally right up the block from my job. Everything happens for a reason...and I guess I needed these shorts in my wardrobe. These shorts are super comfortable and easily transition from work to play. I love them paired with this palm tree top, it's one of my easy breezy looks for the summer.
Have you ever had to make an emergency purchase?

Weekend Wear: It Girl
Shirt: MNG Jeans | Shorts: American Eagle | Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs | Sandals: Forever21 | Sunglasses: Aldo | Necklace: c/o INPINK
pictures taken by Brian Cavanaugh
I was lucky enough to have receive a package from my good blogger friend Pamala from Addikited2Fashion which included two shirts from MNG, this one shown above and the Last Night a Blogger Saved My Life shirt, and a package from INPINK on the same day. Both t-shirts work perfectly with the two INPINK necklaces. These necklaces are bold but can be dressed super causally with graphic tees and shorts for a total weekend wear look.
