Fitness and Fashion
1. Do you keep some kind of fitness routine? Why?
Thanks to my parents they bought me a 3 month membership at the gym for Christmas because they knew I wanted to get back in shape so ever since January the bf and I started going to the gym at least 3 nights a week. Sure I wanted to lose the college weight that I hadn't lost since graduating but I also wanted to feel in shape and fit. I started feeling just lazy and gross and I knew the only way to snap out of that feeling was to start going to the gym. I have always been psychically active my whole life I did gymnastics and played soccer when I was younger and went to the gym when I was in college. I just missed being active.
2. Has working out, maybe training for a marathon or something of that nature, helped with your own perception of body image?
Sure. I know that I'll never be a size 4 but I know that I want to be fit. I want to tone up a bit and just get into shape. I think there is absolutely a difference between being fit and being sickly skinny. Being healthy looks different then over eating or being too skinny. Just like Plus Size models aren't "fat" they are fit. They are real sized woman that have firm muscle tones and in order to be a plus size model you have to be fit.
3. When you are hitting the gym or just going out for a long walk what do you wear? Is it about functionality or fashion?
HA I did a blog entry on this (which you can read here) because I would LOVE to incorporate fashion into my workout gear like adding pops of color or incorporate a trend into it, not just doing the sweat pants and t-shirt thing (which I do anyway). There's this one woman at who goes to my gym that always looks great in her work out gear and I really admire that. She is always matched up in some way like her sports bra matches some of the color in her spandex pants (yes I notice this she's usually some how always on an equipment in front of me since I like the elliptical in the back and the StairMaster is allllll the way in the back).

4. Do you feel there is a cultural perception of what you ‘should’ be doing for your own physical fitness?
I think everyone thinks the same thing eat right (fruit, veggies, orangic foods, etc) and working out is what you should be doing. At least here in the states. I'm not sure if that's how it is everywhere though.

I always love a zip-up work out jacket/fleece. I got one from Old Navy for christmas and I love it. I can get sweaty and gross in it, but it still keeps its cute fitted shape.
ReplyDeleteI got these awesome new "lounge pants" from Old Navy that are so flattering, cheap and perfect for everything from running to yoga. Obsessed!
ReplyDeleteive just started working out again. its hard getting back into it!
ReplyDeleteExpress has these great yoga studio shorts buy one get one 50% off. I love wearing those to work out in!

Great mention about plus-sized models. The word "plus-sized" gets misconstrued. It really means they aren't the typical 0-2 model... so they could be a 6!
ReplyDeleteThat was so nice of your parents to get a membership for you. I love Nike's yoga wear/workout gear. It's incredibly comfortable and chic! Happy Friday! -xo

very nice :D
ReplyDeleteI really like how you want to be fit, not skinny! You're right, there is definitely a difference! Not everyone acknowledges that! Good for you, girl!
