Outfit Post: HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Shorts: Forever21
Tights: American Apparel
Shoes: H&M
Me and my friends went out last night to celebrate Halloween. My cousin (who is seen above) is sporting my old Mad Hatter costume that I bought 2 years ago. I had refused to actually go out and buy a costume this past year. I just couldn't. I just didn't want to buy something that I'll wear once and never wear it again. Anyway, the boy and I teamed up and were Sea Shepherds (you can read more about them here: seashepherd.org). Last night I must say was a lot of fun. We stayed local in our neighborhood. We ended up at this tiki bar that has game board games and we all played Trouble. I haven't played that game since I was a kid. My dad and I would play ALL the time since it was both our favorite game to play. We ended the night at some dive bar that had a pool table, free popcorn, darts, and an interesting playlist. The music would go from 80s rock to 90s hip hop but either way we danced into the early hours of the morning. It's sad that 3:30 is way late for me and I'm still recovering from it. I'm not sure how I made it through college.
This morning in our neighborhood they had a little kids Halloween parade around the park. It was way adorable. All the little ones and their parents were all dressed up. My favorites were: the dad dressed up like a big chicken and the mom and the baby were bumble bees and the dad was the bee keeper! HOW CUTE IS THAT!? Love it. It makes me miss being a kid and going trick or treating. Those were good times. Now I just need to borrows someone else kids so I can go trick or treating.
I hope everyone had a spooktacular Halloween and Weekend!

Vest: The Gap
Jeans: H&M
Bag: Zara
Earrings: Topshop (from my best friend/roomie from college who went to London and bought it from the London Topshop!)
This morning the boy and I went for a walk before going food shopping and cleaning the apt. We stopped at Ted & Honey where I got a Hot Apple Cider. We just sat at this tiny little historic park called Cobble Hill Park. It's so cute and there's this alley way on the other side of the park that has really old homes. They look like old stables. They are quite fascinating.
I'm exciting for tonight! I'm so ready to rock my DIY tshirt and my faux leather shorts!!! I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far.

Undershirt (tank top): Forever21
Jeggings: Aeropastle
Shoes: H&M
THANK GOD ITS THE WEEKEND!!!!! Tonight I finishing up my costume, catching up one some TV, maybe watching Ironman 2, and drinking some wine!
I bought these from my latest trip to H&M. I can't walk into that store without leaving with something. You can view my rant and full outfit on my blog post here.
Rumi from fashiontoast.com look amazing in her jumper by Alexander Wang. There is something very child like and playful about this jumper. Sure it sort of looks like PJs but it looks so cozy and it really gives me a warm fuzzy feeling on the inside. It reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom would buy me onzies PJs. I HATED the foots of them. My mom would have to cut the footies off for me. Alexander Wang gave the onzie a grown up playful look. Alexander Wang you make my heart melt!
Hope everyone had a great week! And has a great weekend!!! Can't wait to go out tomorrow night for Halloween! Does anyone else have Halloween plans or anything else going on this weekend?

Steal the Look for Less: Alexa Chung
Photo from people.com
Chung's look is the perfect day outfit for the fall. It is cozy, comfortable, and chic. There's really nothing better then wearing a knit sweater and watching a movie. What makes this look chic is the leather short, the high heel booties, and the chain purse. You can get Alex Chung's chic cozy look for less.
Cable Knit sweaters are the fall essential. They are warm enough for those fall days to go with out a jacket but they are also perfect to wear under a jacket. To get the cozy feel try a over sized knit like the Topshop Cable Boyfriend Jumper (second from the left). These cable knits are more lose then form fitting. If you want a tighter more form fitting knit try the American Eagle Cable Knit Long Sweater (last on the right). You can also had a funkier look by going with a sweater that has a little details to it. The Urban Outfitters Staring at the Stars Cable Knit Sweater (first to the left) is less chunky then the Topshop and Urban Outfitter sweaters. The UO sweater also has a little detail with the three gold buttons on the shoulder line.
Leather shorts are popping up every where. They are now the new fall essential because they are warm and can be worn with different tights or knee high socks. Leather shorts are harder to wear during the summer since well leather in the sun isn't very comfortable. You can also go with different types of leather shorts: low waist, high waist, tight, or lose. It really depends on what your body frame is and how you prefer to wear your clothes. If you are into loser feeling try the ASOS High Waist Brown Belted Leather Shorts (last on the right). These shorts have a comfortable laid back look to them while the Nasty Gal Riptide Leather Shorts (first on the left) is shorter and tighter. The Nasty Gal shorts have a very motorcycle bad ass chick feel to them. This can be played up or even played down. By adding a girlier sweater to these shorts like the UO sweater it gives it a more feminine side to it.
To really pull the whole look together don't forget the booties and black chain purse. It had a little spunk to this look throw on some red lipstick too.
What do you think of her look?

Last Minute Halloween Ideas
1. Hello Sailor
Outfits from left to right: 1. women's Armani Jeans stripe cotton top: $83 - julesb.co.uk; High Waist Sailor Short: $44 - ardenb.com; Mary Jane Peep Pump: $23 - wetseal.com; 2. Rare Sailor Button: $78 - whatruwearing.co.uk; Charles David Women's Sailor Wedge Sandal: $85 - endless.com; 3. Sailing into the Sunset Dress: $98 - modcloth.com; Ankle Striped Sandal: $37 - yesstyle.com; 4. Criminal Damage Victoria Corset Black: $44 - chaoticclothing.co.uk; Draven Shoes Women's Hold Fast Flat: $20 - endless.com
Remember how during the spring/summer the sailor trend was pretty big. I'm sure some of you have high waist down button shorts, stripe shirts, and/or sailor styled dresses and skirts. You thought it was safe to put these away why not dig these back out! During the spring/summer we didn't want the look to look costumey but now is your chance to play it up. Take your high waist shorts pair it with a stripe t-shirt through some red pumps on and put on some fun costume jewelry like a anchor necklace or earrings. Or take your striped skirt and pair it with a corset double breasted button top for a sexy look. I think red pumps are perfect for this look and if you don't have any red pumps now is your reason to buy a pair esp. since red is one of the colors for the fall. Red pumps will give any fall outfit a nice pop of color. If you already have wedges or even sandals that would work with your outfit then go with that. Just don't forget the red lipstick to pull the whole look together!

3. Get 'Em Cowgirl
Everyone has to have a plaid shirt....or two....or three....or more...right? Cowgirl outfit is pretty easy to do if you have the main two: plaid shirt and cowboy boots. I'm sure almost everyone now has cowboy boots. Pair your plaid shirt up with skinny jeans or torn shorts (give it the Duke's of Hazhard look) and throw on some cowboy boots. To take your look to the next level accessorize with a embelished belts from Tony Lama or Ariat. Do some fun jewlery like horse shoe earrings, a deer head necklace, or fringe like earrings. You can even do a cowgirl type of brooch like the Horse Head & Horse Shoe Crystal Brooch and pin it to your shirt or plaid dress. To even take it another step further you can do a cowgirl hat! If you want to really costume it up go to a local costume store and buy a holster, banda, or even a sherif badge! YEE-HAW!

Cardigan: Target
Shoes: H&M
I found my perfect maxi skirt! And of course it's from H&M. I love the feel of this skirt right down to the prints. I was online in the store buying the shoes that I have on when from the line I spotted this skirt hiding in the corner. I paid for the shoes and ran over to the rack. I got so lucky they had only two sizes left and one of them was mine! I ran, well more like speed walked around all the tourist, to the fitting rooms. Waited online for a good 10 minutes tried it on and was in love with first fitting. I got back on the ridiculous long slow line but did get $5 off since I got a little couple when I bought the shoes. I'm so glad that I spotted this skirt from across the room. I would still be on my endless hunt for a maxi skirt. Anyway, I decided to wear it today to work with my new boot wedges! I'm in love with this whole outfit. It's probably going to be my new favorite outfit.
After work I got my nails done at my favorite place in my neighborhood. I picked this OPI color:
I'm not sure what the name is BUT its a great fall color. It's a nice warm pink color.
I hope everyone is having a good week so far!!

Inspirational Monday: The Runaways
This movie is a real fashion inspiration esp. since I've really been feeling the 1970s vibe lately. I put together in inspiration to the movie.
Have you guys seen this movie? If so what did you think of it? If not will you?
On Thursday I went to a sample sale for Free People, French Connection, Milly, Vakko, Just A Cheap Shirt, and a few others. The best advice I can give for going to sample sales to hold out on go until the last day or so because they usually slash the prices lower. Yes you might miss out some stuff but as I have learned sometimes waiting is even better. Thursday was the last day of the Sample Sale and there was still a good selection and Free people stuff was lowered from 65% off to 75% off. French Connection jeans were then $28 or 2 for $58. These are steals! I had picked a long sleeve shirt and a long sweater jacket from Free People's fall 2010 collection. The shirt was originally $58 but I got it for $15 and the sweater was originally $228 and got it for $58! I got these awesome throw back tailored high waist flared jeans for $28 from French Connection. Makes me wish I picked up 2! So here are my things that I loved LAST week:
1. Hello 1970's Sweater Free People Sweater $228
Okay so the model must be wearing a small or extra small because I'm probably shorter then her and I probably have bit wider frame then her...I bought this same sweater in a Large and the sleeves are much longer (which I love) and it's down past my knees (which I love). Whatever the case I probably would not have liked this so much if I just saw it online. It really isn't anything special online and I wish they would have given her a large to show how long this actually is. It has a great 1970s feel to it esp. because of the print and the little fringes around it. Pair it up with the flared jeans I'm throwing it back to the 70s and feeling like a hippy! I also love that I bought this for $58 and it's still online for $228. I did a outift post of this last week.
2. The Runaways
Saturday night the boy and I watched the Runaways with Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart. To be honest I'm not a Kristen Stewart fan but she played a really good Joan Jett, her acting skills sort of kicked in. Dakota Fanning....she blew my mind. She was beautiful and amazing! It's so crazy how grown up she is. She also at times reminded me of Lindsay Lohan not the way she acted but the way she looked. It must have been the make-up, blond hair, and her drug/alcohol addiction.
Anyway, I loved this movie. If you are a punk rock fan, if you ever wished you grew up in the late 1970s early 1980s to be around when CBGBs was the place to be at you should watch this movie. Plus the fashion in this was incredible. Who ever styled for this movie did a fantastic job. I loved all of Cheri Currie's (Dakota Fanning) clothing. Lots of sequins, flared jeans, and even jean on jean action! Even Joan Jett's I don't give-a- F**K clothing was great. Esp. when she made her own Sex Pistols shirt. The clothing in this movie was inspirational, maybe not their actions such as the drug abuse and alcohol abuse but clothing hell yes.

3. Bregje Heinen for Flair NovemberFashion Canvas posted these from fashiongonerogue and they are absolutely breath taken! From the clothing to the scenery! The models face in these photos are just so strong and stunning. I love the American Indian feel these photos.
4. Zara Magazine Issue 2
I love that red is playing a big roll this fall. Red gives the perfect POP of color in any outfit esp. in fall and winter when we all tend to wear darker colors. It's also a easy color to pair clothing with. I'm loving the Zara cashmere red sweater with the high waist pants.5. Lavin Loves H&M Preview
We are getting closer and closer. I'm loving the teasers that H&M keeps dropping! I just can't wait to see the full line!
Anything you guys really love?

Leather Jacket: Michael Kors
Sweater: H&M
Leggings: Urban Outfitters
This is what I wore yesterday. Decided to dress up a bit to go grocery shopping and to make Pumpkin Whoopie Pies.
I hate Sundays because it means tomorrow is Monday which in return means work. I'm so lazy today. I woke up late, did my laundry, took a nap while watching the Eagles game, and now I have to go food shopping. Lazy lazy lazy.
In other news I can not wait for next Saturday! We are doing the Halloween thing and sticking around the bars in our neighborhood. The boy and I have decided to be Sea Shepherds (from the TV show Whale Wars) If you don't know what Sea Shepherds are they are group of environmental activities that go down to coast of Anterica to save the whales from being harpooned by the Japanese. You can read more about these here: Sea Shepherd.org. We are making our costumers from scratch really we are just making the t-shirts from scratch everything else we are pulling together from our closet and what not. Even though I'm going to sexy up the costume since well they are on a boat down in the Antartica I mean they usually wear bulky clothing but I'm going to wear my faux leather shorts with fishnets, boots, black knit hat, and my leather jacket. I do however need to buy some combat boots I did see a pair on forever21s website that I like that I might to go see if I can find! What are you doing for Halloween?
Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Making Whoopie......PIES!!
Here's the recipe:
Cookie:
1 stick unsalted butter, melted
1 cup packed light brown sugar
2 large eggs, at room temperature, lightly beaten
1 cup canned pure pumpkin puree
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
1 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1-2/3 cups flour
Icing:
1/2 stick unsalted butter, softened
4 ounces cream cheese, chilled
1 cup confectioners' sugar
2 pinches of salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract a few shakes of cinnamon
Preheat the oven to 350°. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth. Whisk in the eggs, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, 1 teaspoon vanilla, the baking powder, the baking soda and 3/4 teaspoon salt. Using a rubber spatula, fold in the flour.
Using a spoon, drop small mounds of batter, spaced evenly, onto each baking sheet. Bake until springy to the touch, about 10 minutes. Transfer to a rack to cool completely.
For the icing: using an electric mixer, cream the softened butter with the cream cheese. Add the confectioners' sugar and the remaining 2 pinches salt, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, and cinnamon; mix on low speed until blended, then beat on medium-high speed until fluffy, about 2 minutes.
Spread the flat side of half of the cakes with the cream cheese frosting. Top each with another cake.
