Recent Buys

Yesterday I dragged my boyfriend to the Amanda Uprichard Warehouse Sale. I love shopping with him because he's the most honest person that I know. If he doesn't like it he'll say so. Which was perfect for yesterday since the store was small and they only had two mirrors one in the back where all these girls were crowded and one huge mirror in the front. It wasn't packed when we first walked in there but it got pretty full while we were in there. I must say it was great! I ended up buying two dresses that were $30 each but the woman at the counter cut me a little deal so it ended up only costing $50 for both. If you haven't gone yet defiantly make it a point to hit it up today since today is the last day of the sale! Also just be prepared to take some of the clothes in to the dry cleaners. Some of the dresses and shirts (like the ones I bought) are pretty wrinkly. Either way these clothes are a steal!

Afterward we hit up the Manhattan Mall so I could get some much needed white tank tops. I wear them almost every day under a t-shirt for work but most if not all have holes in them. I went to Charlotte Russe since they have Buy 2 for $15 on tanks. I must say it was really hard not to buy anything else from there. All their spring stuff is super cute! Lots of pastel colors. Lots of flower trimmed tanks and halter tops. I do however want to go back this week and try on this white dress that I saw, I just remembered last night that I have $25 Visa Gift card that I haven't used yet. I was disappointed that they didn't have any cute belts, they only had two selections. But I did buy 2 earrings that would go perfectly with my new dresses. Even their accessories are pretty pastel colors with flowers. Also they have the best dale 2 for $8...how can you go wrong?

We also went to see Shutter Island last night and can I just say... O M G! I thought it was great while the boyfriend said it was ...Okay. No it was great. I thought the movie was going one way and it totally went the other way. Also the colors and imagery in the movie were AMAZING! I recommend going to see it. It is a little long but I say go see it!

Anyway time to get dressed and start my day. Laundry and food shopping ahead for this girl!

Hope you all have a great Sunday!

Saturday Outfit

Shirt: Target
Jeans: H&M
Belt: American Eagle
Boots: Roxy
Earrings: Claires
Necklace: a gift from one of my ex co-workers

Getting ready to head out for the day. Going to hit up the Amanda Uprichard Warehouse Sale. Then maybe stop by the Manhattan Mall and get some much needed cheap white tanks since if not all MOST have holes in the side. My boyfriend and I are meeting up with a friend from college for dinner. After that the boy and I are going to see if we can catch Shutter Island since I still have 2 free passes for Clearviews Cinemas and they expire at the end of this month (which means tomorrow is the last day to use them!)!

What are your plans for today?

Terry Richardson & Jessica Stam for ALDO

Aldo launched their new Spring/Summer 2010 campaign with model Jessica Stam and photographer Terry Richardson. The ad features shoes and accessories of course by Aldo.

The photos are fantastic! And she is such a lively model, it must be great to work with her.

(I'm in love with these shoes. I love that color green. What a great spring color!)

These sunglasses are super cute.

Photoshop with Warning Labels?

There was an article in the Gothamist today called "Should Photoshopped Images Come with a Warning Label?" Such ideas like this and tax on "sugary drinks" (aka Soda) makes my blood boil. It's a viscous cycle that we have gotten ourselves into. We always blame someone else or something else for our problems. Instead of stopping you're self from eating McDonald's every day you blame them for the reason you're fat. Instead of saying I really don't love who I am or love myself that's why I have a eating disorder you blame photoshopped images that you see in magazines for your problems.

I grew up reading fashion magazine like Vogue and W with my mom. She would always have a monthly copy of it and I remember sitting with her reading it and picking out clothes that we both liked. She use to tear out pictures of clothing and accessories that she really liked and hang them on her wall. Of course, then I use to do the same thing I would cut out pictures from magazines that I bought and paste them into a journal that I had. I guess I always some how knew these models weren't "real woman." I never had a eating disorder or had self image problems from looking at these models. I never picked myself apart because of these images. I believe that girls should learn at a young age that they are beautiful that and there is no "perfect beauty" or "perfect woman." This of course should be taught at home. Perfection is in the eye of beholder. I truly believe that. All of us have flaws, even the most beautiful model I'm sure will tell you something they don't like about themselves. We all have something we don't like about ourselves but no one is perfect. Even money can't buy you perfection.

I understand that photoshopping images is like lieing but everyone has to realize that these are advertisements. That in order to sell their clothing they have to distort the truth, make the clothes look as enticing as they can. They want people to buy their clothes. Whether you buy your clothes from the same advertisement you saw or not you buy your clothes from something you saw because you remembered it. You knew it's in fashion. There are often times where I think "I remember seeing something like this is in an ad for ____." Whether or not we realize it or not what we buy is because of what is around us. What we saw. Some people will argue and say it isn't true. That they don't buy things off of what they see in ads they buy what they like. But what they like is based off of popular culture. Forever 21 and H&M take whatever is in or some designers fashion trends and change it a bit to make it more afford able but it's the same thing. I remember seeing the same dress from a brand line in Urban Outfitters that I bought in Forever 21 no it wasn't the same brand since it was from Forever 21 and it was cheaper but it was based off the same design which I'm sure is then based of another design. I'm just saying that everything comes in full circle and our choices in buying these are based off of what we see in advertisements whether we realize it or not.

Photoshopped images are just as much as a lie as woman wearing make up. Make up covers our imperfections. Some woman don't look the same as they do when they wear make up. If they give warning labels about photoshop then whats next? Warning labels about make-up, fake tans, fake eye lashes, etc. There are plenty of things that woman use to cover their imperfections up, to hide what they really look like.

I do however believe that models should be healthy. Yes some woman are naturally skin, god bless their little skinny bodies, and we have to remember that too. And how about the ones that starve themselves? Then there is something that needs to be done about that. You shouldn't have to starve yourself. Health should always be first. I know that I'll never be a size 0 but I exercise because I want to be healthy. I just think we need to realize the difference between healthy and not healthy, what is real and what is not real. Woman to get real with themselves. They shouldn't pick apart their bodies because of photoshop images.

Outfit Post

The dress that I wore to work on Wednesday is probably my favorite dress to wear. It's flowy and flowery...can't get any better than that. Plus it's great easy to pair with leggings or tights for these cold winter days.

Dress: H&M
Belt: H&M
Legging: American Apparel

But of course it's so gross out in the city I also wore my long beige sweater with it in the office. Matched with my brown shoes that I keep there....Had to wear rain boots outside.

I also totally loved the outfit I had on today. It was so simple and comfy but cute.

Jeans (leggings): H&M
Shirt: H&M
Open Cardigan: Kmart (yes Kmart!) Route 66 brand
Belt: Charlotte Russe (a dress came with this belt....)

I use to work right next to Kmart and I use to be able to find a few cute things from their juniors section. A lot of their nicer stuff that I liked was from their Route 66 clothing line. Some of their stuff was actually expensive, well more then I thought it should be.

I'm also starting to realize that most of my clothing is from H&M. One day I'll be able to afford big designer named stuff till then I'll stick with my H&M.

Winter Blues

I'm seriously going through some winter blues. This past weekend was such a tease with the nice weather. I was able to just wear a scraf and my leather jacket while taking a walk through the park. Now it's a snowy mixed mess outside. I'm tired of having to bundle up before leaving the house. I just want to wear summer dresses, skirts without tights, and flip flops. These are the things that I look foward to with the warmer weather. I want to be able to walk outside with out a coat, a scarf, and a hat on. I would be happy just to walk outside with a hoodie or a light jacket. I'm also tired of seeing snow. I want to see the sun. I want to feel it's warmth.
As Brand New lyrics says "I need the smell of summer, I need it's noises in my ears."

Rainy Days

Today is a rainy, cold, windy day in the city. I found it hard to actually get up out of bed this morning because it was still dark outside but I still got up, got dressed, put my rain boots on and headed to work. Days like today I am thankful I decided to buy my rain boots since I have to walk 3 avenues to a train station. Mine are nothing to special they are just black with white and red plaid but there are some super cute rain boots out there. I saw one girl with just a simple powder pink boots and another woman had on just black rainboots that had a heel to them. So I decided to investigate online and find some cute rainboots.

My finds:

Woman's Retro RainBoots- Grey $24.99 - Target

Chooka Victoria Secrets Rainboots $69.00

Delia's Henry Ferrera Graffiti Rainboot $49.50

Also is it possible to be in love with rainboots because I think I am with these:

Chooka Moto Studded Rainboots-$80.00 Shopbop.com

I have this weird obession with any Hello Kitty and Cupcakes...so OF COURSE I love these rainboots and I wish I had them on right now!
Chooka Hello Kitty Cute! $49.99

For some reason I like these....They are probably really great in snow too:

Lacoste Bundle NS- $87.96 Zappos.com

And these are just some FASHIONABLE rainboots!

Aquatalia by Marvin K- $259.90 Zappos

How much would you be willing to spend on rainboots? I don't think I'd spend anymore then $24.99 on rainboots no matter how much I love them....

What did you think of these finds? Do you own rainboots?

Monday Outfit

I totally loved what I was wearing today. Almost everything I had on was from H&M minus the hat (Urban Outfitters), Shoes (Square One), and cardigan sweater (Target). I had just recently bought the tank top and the skirt I was wearing. I love the length of the tank top because it's long and can be worn with leggings. I have recently gotten into wearing leggings with long shirts.

Little Boots

I'm at work and rocking out to Little Boots. Her music reminds me of Lily Allen (maybe it's the whole UK thing) but not as sassy. I was looking at some pictures of her and she is beautiful with a cute style!

Boutiques Boutiques Boutiques

I love Boutiques. I love how they have original work from original artist. I love that you can buy one of a kind clothing and know you're not going to see everyone walking down the street with it on. The only downside is that boutiques are expensive, which makes me sad. I still enjoy going to the stores and checking out what they have. I am lucky that I live clothes to two great boutiques: Barking Brown and BKLYN. Williamsburg also has some great boutiques. I got an email today about a pop up boutique that opened today and will run through April 30th. It's called Jane's Closet:

Jane’s Closet Pop-Up
What:
The discerning e-commerce curator sets up temporary shop with an expanded selection of frocks and accessories (Huit-Huit, Deborah Sweeney, Manoush, Corey Lynn Calter).
Why: Tap into Jane’s addiction.
